Things of fun

  • Apr. 30th, 2009 at 3:17 PM
hmm...
I finally remembered to do things in time and so today, for the first time, my business cards for Laine arrived.

For those of you that are not aware, Laine is my Changeling: the Lost secondary in IoD who runs a Hotel in Inverness. And now I have many business cards that attest to this fact. :D As well as a free pen!

I also managed to get two rubber stamps for the princely sum of £0.08. One says "APPROVED" in black ink, the other "Denied!" in red. I'm going to have fun with those...

Also arriving today was my new phone - the HTC Magic (otherwise known as the Google G2). They're not actually out till next week, so when Vodafone phoned me yesterday and said "you know you said you were interested in upgrading to the HTC Magic? Do you want it delivered tomorrow?" I said "yes!" and lo' it did arrive and is currently charging. :D

So all I need now is a job...

A post! With a meme!

Well I'm back

  • Apr. 22nd, 2007 at 11:28 PM
hmm...
And I'm tired as hell. If you want me to be able to do anything in the next few days, ask me to ninj someone and all my energy will return :)

The event was good, and fun as hell. Ninjing for teh win! Also, Ninj for teh win!

I got to play lots of things like Keitro, Abyssals (surprise!), Hate Wraiths, a Kith Rhae connected to plot, dead Keitro... I had fun!

A note to Unicorns: when an Abyssal walks off to the side of your line and waits, don't forget about him and move your line forward. You'll only get stabbed in the back. Every time I do it.

I also managed to go through 3 peasants over the weekend. An elf on Friday night who just didn't come back. Ninj, my dodgy sneaky bastard peasant who got summararily executed on the death mat for petty theft. (They didn't know about the resisting arrest charge) and Grod the Abyssal fighter who took on an Abyssal with only a dagger and his teeth and came away with only a scratch right across his chest.

Of course, the bad hits were a downside - but there weren't many that I got. Though collectively we took a lot of crotch-hits from the archers. I got one on each side... :( Also got clouted quite hard across the head in the last fight, but the guy was really good about it so alls well.

Also, running up and down hills all weekend is a bad thing...

Lost a pair of bracers as well (plain black leather with elastic rope) :( Hopefully they'll have been picke dup by someone who can get them back to me next time I see them...

Nationals take 2

  • Apr. 3rd, 2007 at 12:56 AM
batman!
I appear to have received mad props all over the place for the game. :D This is a Good Thing.

And thus I have come to 2 conclusions.

  1. I will be running it again (hopefully soon)

  2. I will have to actually write it up and make it available to people

---

To summise my weekend in non-notation, it went something like this:

Wednesday night. Went to work then stayed up all night and all of...

Thursday (ok, so I dozed for an hour) to both run my second playtest and try and reset my sleep pattern. Since...

Friday involved waking up at 8am so I could let Alex ([info]tylorva) into the flat. We then visited a Mark ([info]lifestealer) and ran around town for a bit including visiting Sarah ([info]intemporaliter) at work. Then back to work at McD. :( Finished work at 10:45, headed home and the 35 went past. damn. Dump stuff, grab laptop, head out and catch last bus going right way. Arrive at Potterow at half 11 to pick up t-shirt and pass, find people then steal wireless internet while I finished writing handouts.

Saturday morning was desperate, last-minute printing so we arrived 20 minutes late. Not at all due to Jack [info]jaxeth having shitloads more printing to do than we realised... No, not at all... Anyways, found myself a group of 5 roleplayers geared up for World of Darkness. Then I lead them on the intrepid "Abandon Nationals" plan. It was all Andy's idea. He wanted to head shop-wards. So did I. We took the other with us on a trip of shopping doom! I'm fairly sure that the other GM wasn't best pleased, but what was he going to do? :) So we started, and everyone enjoyed the scenario, once they got their heads round the concept. Raised £32 for charity :) Saturday night was spent hanging around Potterow harassing chatting to my players and then haphazardly forming a pub quiz team. Considering we had no rulebooks and only 5/6 players (we lost one partway), we didn't do bad. We even got our complaint read out and acted upon. Yay Team Shaft!ed!!

Sunday morning, was not hungover but did sleep in longer than should have. Then woke up Alex and headed out without Jack (he was ill). Second group had more problems understanding the setting, but also enjoyed the scenario. They also obsessively placed charges. Two demolitionists means many many bombs. They were also the first group not to use the Haunter to melt every obstacle (just a couple - after I mentioned it). Raised £17.30 for charity - mostly from "£10 in the pot. All my demo rolls to blow the basements up are perfect." :) Won a GM's t-shirt in the raffle, Yelled at Lucy ([info]mirax_girl) to take it back cos I already had one. (Sorry gophers...) We were disappointed that we didn't get to host prize-giving ourselves, but what can you do?

So, that was the Nationals.

Apparently, I have readers on DoC as well as LJ since Helen ([info]blackic) (one of my players) commented on my previous Nationals post. Yay!

(Also on that note, both tofuburger and cheezburger from I Can Has Cheezburger have commented on my post about ICHC. woot!)

Interesting Stir-fries

  • Mar. 6th, 2007 at 11:40 PM
hmm...
I seem to be making many of these... Something to do with ingenuity in the face of adversity... or in other words, I has bugger all ingredients so make do with what I have.

So to actually put down what I did with this one...

Recipe... of sorts )

And it's very nice if I do say so myself...

Alive!!!

  • Feb. 26th, 2007 at 2:39 PM
hmm...
In many senses!

Lost Association Elections... damn illness had me under the weather, so less talking to people than probably should have occurred.

Lord Vel is in no uncertain terms alive! Muhahahah! No one really tried to kill him, though there is a vicious rumour going round that says I use poisons... Therefore, I shall survive until Rule 3! This being since I can't do CoG due to no money :( and will be monstering SP. While I might get a chance to play for a wee bit at SP, I don't want to have to mess around for an hour working with makeup because I'm not going to not do the full kit sorta thing...

I am actually still kicking despite not posting much... I got distracted by Naruto and Prison Break 2 and new Scrubs (season 6!) and Heroes and all teh pr0n and work and the elections and being ill...

Suppose I should probably figure out what I have to do coursework-wise now... and get ahold of my brooding pictures...

Random stuff that came up...

  • Oct. 7th, 2006 at 12:57 AM
hmm...
These may seem weird... but it's somehow relevant...

1) Have I asked any of you to marry me? (don't ask...)

2) I'm a reverend in an American church about 3 or 4 times under different names.

3) Anyone want to start a new religion?

In other news... Accepted is a damn good film. And [info]staticbeast is planning on getting up before noon on a weekend to go watch a film...

Back at Large... yarrr!

  • Sep. 7th, 2006 at 11:28 AM
hmm...
Ah arriv'd fae the briny blue yasterday morn'n in Aberdeen and took t' train down to Edinburgh in mi pirate gear.

(Ah stole mah sword back fae 'em)

Dump'd mi stuff and went tae t' uni to pick up mi keys. (You know, I'm gonna stop with the horrendous accent...) The keys to the flat that is. Turns out they didn't have them. No one had picked them up after me dropping them through the letterbox when I left. (Clever, huh?)

So they were in the flat all along, but no one had told me and more importantly, I told the accommodation office that they weren't in the flat. Turns out that they'd lost their master set as well, so it was suggested that I get some more cut and they'd re-imburse me for them. Since I wanted to get a spare set cut anyway, this seems to be a painless-for-my-pocket way of doing it.

Had a meeting with the Borderer about the website (hour and a half - for my timesheet) and got a sneaky peek at the new look Union and the Freshers Watts On.

After that, I headed into town, bought some more presents and went to Black Lion. Ended up hanging around till closing and doing some of Lucy's work for her. :D There's some nasty shit floating around at the moment, but hopefully it'll blow over...

Oh and did I mention I was still wearing The Hat? :D

Thought about going to the cinema but turned up 10 minutes after the start of SoaP and decided to go get pizza and catch up on internets instead.

Oh and I successfully postal-registered so I don't have to go to the 9:30am registration session in Freshers Week. :) I also have many Ubuntu CDs (install and live) if people want them. It's version 6.06 (the latest version).

more piratical proof )

I think that'll do for an update for the moment... cya all later :D

Pirate hat!

  • Sep. 5th, 2006 at 2:19 PM
hmm...
I have a new pirate hat! And now it has a feather! and now I have a matching avy!

Pirate hat photos! )

Oh and I leave Shetland in under 4 hours :D

Will be hitting Edinburgh at about 10:30 tomorrow :D

Will need to hit the cinema hard, but first... yet another trip to my favourite gaming shop!

Of course I have realised some stuff... Like how I sent my quilt, sheets, towels, pillows, etc with all the rest of my stuff to go south. Meaning that it won't get to Edinburgh until Sunday... Though I was clever enough to leave myself some clothes while I wait for it to arrive. :D

Almost doubting myself...

  • Sep. 1st, 2006 at 6:57 PM
me in dress
So today I did my presentation...

Oh wait, I didn't actually mention it before now, did I? Hmm...

Well today I was doing a presentation on the summer project I've been doing (that was the website for those paying attention) for Shell and local businesses in an effort to get more cash.

I got a lot of congratulations on my report and the judges said it was really close and hard to decide. But... I didn't place. The ones that did were ones that had a much more far-reaching project that the business would continue to develop significantly after they left. After all, once you have a website, that's pretty much it apart from updates now and then...

Got lots of questions and gave fairly comprehensive answers :D Also stopped using my notes about a minute in so was surprised I did so well :D Did have to explain why I didn't use Frontpage though. Resisted saying "because it's a piece of shit" and actually gave real reasons. At least the ones I could fit into 30 seconds.

So that was today... well most of it...

Turns out I'm a damn good consultant on a lot of subjects. Including dumbing-down internet security, website development, universities... I actually spent half an hour explaining internet security with a house analogy and it worked - beautifully. I even managed to fit in downloading programs. :D I also spent 5 minutes giving clear consise reasons for deciding on one university over another to someone. Didn't know I had it in me...

Of course, to bring the title back in... About 30seconds after that I got 1 syllable away from asking myself "When did I become such a guru?". At the "gu" I realised that I always was. :D And asked the right question: "When did I become such a good consultant?"

Also turns out that I may have just bought even more larp kit... damn you Dave! However, I do now only need a bow, a polearm and throwing weapons to complete my weapon set...
